Professional Bio
Sumantra Baral is a Graduate PhD student in Comparative Literature and Asian Studies. His research focuses on South Asian Literature and Print cultures during the Indo-China War and the Cold War. His project studies the intersection of literature, journalism and visual culture in reportage in post-colonial India, the involvement of the Printing Press and Publication houses, and networks of dissemination and readership.
Before joining Penn State, he was involved in various archival projects at the School of Cultural Texts and Records (Jadavpur University), Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (CSSSC), P.C. Joshi Archive (Jawaharlal Nehru University), and Samaresh Basu Digital Archive Project.
