Professional Bio

Merve Şen is a PhD candidate in Comparative Literature and Visual Studies. Focusing on the hospital as a sensory and material environment through literary and cinematic works from Turkey, Europe and America, her research investigates the possibility of an ethics of care, which foregrounds health as a social and environmental phenomenon rather than a biopolitical tool. Her project also explores the entanglements between literary, cinematic and medical genres. Her research interests include Contemporary Literature, Health Humanities, Film and Visual Studies, and Technology Studies.

In 2023-2024, she was the Assistant Instructor in Health Humanities at the Penn State College of Medicine in University Park. She is also one of the writers in the online health humanities journal Synapsis.
