“Writing in Red: Literature and Revolution Across Turkey and the Soviet Union Book” Launch

The Department of Comparative Literature presents Nergis Ertürk (Comparative Literature) on the book launch for Writing in Red: Literature and Revolution Across Turkey and the Soviet Union (Columbia University Press, 2024). The event will also feature Samuel Hodgkin (Yale University) and will be moderated by Michelle Campos (History).

 

Moderated by Michelle Campos, this seminar will feature a public conversation between Nergis Ertürk and Samuel Hodgkin on Ertürk's recently published book Writing in Red. Participants will address a range of topics including Soviet anti-imperialism and national liberation, Marxian aesthetics and the Eastern international, modernism and socialist realism, the tragedy and romance of revolution, and the relation between communism and postcoloniality. The seminar discussion will also address Hodgkin's recently published monograph Persianate Verse, and the participants will emphasize various topics and threads that cut across both books.
