Penn State faculty member Gabeba Baderoon and graduate student Abby Ryder-Huth will talk about their joint involvement in the translation of the Afrikaans counter-epic poem, Bientang, by South African poet Jolyn Phillips.
• Gabeba Baderoon is Associate Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, African Studies and Comparative Literature, and a prominent poet. She chairs the board of New Contrast, the oldest multilingual literary journal in South Africa, and guest-edited two special issues dedicated to Zoë Wicomb and Diana Ferrus.
• Abby Ryder-Huth is a Ph.D. graduate student in Comparative Literature and Visual Studies. She holds an MA degree in Literary Translation from the University of Iowa.
