Tembi Charles joined the Pennsylvania State University as a PhD student under Comparative Literature and African Studies in 2017. Her main research areas are contemporary intra-African Literatures of Migration, Postcolonial Literatures, Theory and Criticism, Poetry and Poetics.

Outside academia, Tembi is a published poet and short story writer. Her work can be found in The Ghost-Eater and Other Stories (2013), Best “New” African Poets (2016/17),  Zimbolicious Poetry Anthology: Volume 2 (2017) and Better than Starbucks (2018).
