Biography:

Hanan Al-Alawi is a third-year dual-title PhD student in Comparative Literature and Womxn’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her research explores the literary and cultural production of twentieth and twenty-first century dispossessed communities in the Arabian/Persian Gulf. It interrogates the authority of the archive and its historical production of knowledge by examining how disenfranchised collectivities in Kuwait, Iran, and Iraq, problematize normative identities, geopolitical borders, and narratives of nationhood. She works with Arabic, Farsi, and English.
