ARAB 001 ARABIC I (4 credits). Introduction to reading, writing, pronunciation, and listening comprehension of modern standard Arabic; simple grammatical forms, basic vocabulary.

ARAB 002 ARABIC II (4 credits). Continues development of reading, writing, pronunciation, and oral comprehension skills of modern standard Arabic; intermediate grammatical forms, vocabulary building, and culture.

ARAB 003 ARABIC III (4 credits). Intermediate and continued practice of modern standard Arabic. Complex grammatical forms; vocabulary building principles.


CHNS 001 CHINESE I (4 credits). Listening, speaking, reading, and writing:  introduction to the basic structures and vocabulary of Mandarin Chinese.

CHNS 002 CHINESE II (4 credits). Listening, speaking, reading, and writing:  introduction to basic structures and vocabulary of Mandrin Chinese.

CHNS 003 CHINESE III(4 credits). Continued study of Mandarin Chinese at the intermediate level.  More extensive practice in reading and writing; study of Chinese culture.

CHNS 110 CONVERSATION, READING, AND COMPOSITION (3 credits). A further strengthening of students' reading, writing, and conversational abilities. Fourth-semester Chinese: a continuation of practice in speaking, listening, writing, and reading.

CHNS 401(3 credits). Advanced Conversation. For students who have completed four semesters of Chinese (or equivalent), this course offers a continuation of Chinese instruction.  Emphasis on oral proficiency through discussions of aspects of contemporary culture.


HEBR 001 HEBREW I (4 credits). Basic knowledge of speaking, reading, and writing of modern contemporary Hebrew.  Grammatical forms and structures will be presented, along with an introduction to the Hebrew script.

HEBR 002 HEBREW II (4 credits). Continues development of reading, writing, pronunciation, and oral comprehension skills of modern Hebrew:  intermediate grammatical forms, vocabulary building, and culture.

HEBR 003 HEBREW III (4 credits). The intermediate level of Hebrew, establishing the foundation for higher levels of the language and literature.  Mastering grammar structures and further developing the ability to conduct conversations in contemporary Hebrew.

HEBR 110 CONVERSATION, READING, AND COMPOSITION. Oral and written expression; aspects of Israeli culture and civilization.

HEBR 401 (3 credits). Advanced conversation. For students who have completed four semesters of Hebrew (or equivalent), this course offers a continuation of Hebrew instruction. Emphasis on oral proficiency through discussions of aspects of contemporary culture.

HEBR 402 ADVANCED HEBREW--READING EMPHASIS. Readings in representative works of traditional and modern literature;  practice in composition;  study of aspects of Jewish culture.


JAPNS 001 JAPANESE I (4 credits). The basic Japanese language structures and the writing system, as well as some aspects of Japanese culture, are introduced.  Practice in everyday conversation and comprehension.

JAPNS 002 ELEMENTARY JAPANESE II(4 credits). Development of the ability to read, write, and speak Japanese.  Basic structures and the writing system, as well as some aspects of Japanese culture, are studied.

JAPNS 003 JAPANESE III (4 credits). Continued study of modern Japanese at the intermediate level.  Mastery of wider variety of grammatical patterns.  Greater emphasis on reading skills.

JAPNS 110 CONVERSATION, READING, WRITING, AND COMPOSITION (3 credits). This is fourth-semester Japanese:  a continuation of practice in speaking, listening, writing, and reading.

JAPNS 402 ADVANCED READING, WRITING, AND COMPOSITION (3 credits). Readings in newspaper articles and essays;  practice in composition and oral fluency;  and the study of aspects of Japanese culture.

JAPNS 401 (3 credits). Advanced Conversation.  Emphasis on oral proficiency through discussions of aspects of contemporary culture.


KOR 001 KOREAN I (4 credits). Listening, speaking, reading, writing Koreanan introduction for beginners; basic structures and vocabulary; culture elements.

KOR 002 KOREAN II (4 credits). This course continues the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing Korean.  It emphasizes structures, vocabulary, and cultural elements.

KOR 003 KOREAN III (4 credits). Continued development of reading, writing, pronunciation, and comprehension skills in Korean; intermediate grammatical forms, vocabulary building; culture and a glance at contemporary Korean literary works.


SWA 001 SWAHILI  I  (4 credits). Listening, speaking, reading, writing Swahili: an introduction for beginners; basic structures and vocabulary; cultural elements.

SWA 002 ELEMENTARY SWAHILI (4 credits). This course is a  continuation of Swahili 001.  It emphasizes the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Basic vocabulary structures and cultural elements acquired in Swahili 001 are further developed in Swahili 002.

SWA 003 SWAHILI  III (4 credits). Continued development of reading, writing, pronunciation, and oral comprehension skills in Swahili; inter-mediate grammatical forms, vocabulary building, and culture
