A. Listening Exercise: Radio news

  1. Log on to http://www.dwelle.de/kiswahili/
  2. Click on "sikiliza vipindi vyetu" to listen to current news from around the world.
  3. Choose one news item, listen carefully and gather what you can, for a report to the class the next day.
  4. If the newsreader is too fast, then pick at least 20 words from the news, and together we will try to reconstruct the theme of the news.

B. Reading Exercise

  1. Log on to the web-site on activity 3.
  2. Click on "Vipindi maalum" (Special Reports) to select a topic to read. You can scroll down to see what is being offered.
  3. After you have selected a topic, read and understand. In summary, prepare a report of the news item for presentation in class.
    4. Where possible, print the report and bring it to class for reference during the discussion.
  4. To understand the news better, note the difficult words, log on to the Yale on-line dictionary http://www.cis.yale.edu/swahili/
