Hamjambo? Karibuni kwa Kiswahili 296/003 Kiswahili 296 is a continuation of Kiswahili 1 & 2. The class meets approximately 4 hours a week for 15 weeks. The emphasis of this course is on the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with intermediate level grammatical structures. 50% of the class time will be devoted to conversation and oral practice. The rest of the time will be devoted to reading and learning some intermediate-level grammar. Students are required to review all the readings prior to each class meeting.
Attendance is required. If you miss class for any reason, it is your responsibility to find out from other class members what went on that day and to acquaint yourself with any changes in the schedule. Unexcused absences beyond five will result in the loss of one point from your final grade for each unexcused absence, up to a maximum of 10 points.
All assignments must be forwarded on time either by e-mail or dropped off in my mailbox in 311 Burrowes. Late assignments will not be accepted. Make-up exams and quizzes will only be given in cases where the student has an official excuse or has obtained the instructor’s permission in advance. In any case, these must be completed before the next scheduled exam or quiz, except with prior permission from the instructor. It is up to the student to make arrangements to take any missed exams or quizzes. Oral exams will be individually scheduled per the syllabus. There will be no make-up for missed oral exams. In a situation where two or more students are scheduled to appear for an oral exam during the same session and one fails to show up, the one who does not turn up will automatically get a failing grade.
1. Academic dishonesty will be dealt with according to university policies.

After the first week, however, only students registered in the course may remain; no students may late-add (or restore a dropped registration) after the third week of the semester without petitioning the department on a form available in the office, 311 Burrowes.
