The Graduate Program
Comparative literature courses have been available to Penn State students for more than eight decades. A graduate program in comparative literature came into existence about mid-century. Penn State's first Ph.D. in comparative literature was awarded to Robert A. Charles in 1952; the first M.A. in comparative literature was awarded to James Hodge in 1960.
Today the graduate program in comparative literature hosts a dynamic and diverse group of graduate students whose interests range across the globe and across a variety of theoretical approaches. Their work is guided and supported by our graduate faculty.
