GRADE REPORT AND TRANSCRIPT SYMBOLS
(Senate Policy 47-40)

The following symbols may appear on a student's grade report and transcript in place of a grade. A student's grade-point average is not affected by these symbols.

Symbol Recorded Meaning of Symbols on Student Academic Records
AU Student registered for class as an auditor and attended regularly (Senate Policy 48-80).
DF* Deferred grade (Senate Policy 48-40).
FL Student failed a course taken under the pass/fail option. (This option has been replaced by the satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading option.)
I, INCP* Incomplete. Student received a DF or NG grade symbol. In a student's grade summary, the I indicates incomplete averages; INCP is recorded beside the semester for which reporting is incomplete.
NG* No grade available at the time of grade reporting (Senate Policy 48-50).
P Student completed the work in a noncredit course (Senate Policy 47-40).
PS Student passed a course taken under the pass/fail grading option. (This option has been replaced by the satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading option.)
R Research. Student is registered in a variable-credit course which extends beyond the semester. Adequate time and effort have been given to the work. When the work is completed, a grade is issued (Senate Policy 49-40).
S Student earned credits through a proficiency exam (Senate Policy 42-50.2).
SA Student passed a course taken under satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading option. SA means satisfactory achievement or better (A, B, C) (Senate Policy 49-60).
UN Unsatisfactory achievement in a course taken under satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading option--UN indicates unsatisfactory achievement (D, F) (Senate Policy 49-60).
W Official withdrawal (Senate Policy 56-30).
W Student registered for a course as an auditor and did not attend regularly (Senate Policy 48-80).
WF Withdrew, failing. Student processed a course late drop after the tenth calendar day of the semester and was failing at that time (Senate Policy 34-89).
WN Withdrew, no grade. Student processed a course late drop after the tenth calendar day of the semester, and the instructor was unable to determine a grade (Senate Policy 34-89).
WP Withdrew, passing. Student processed a course late drop after the tenth calendar day of the semester and was passing at that time (Senate Policy 34-89).
XF Fail, academic dishonesty (Academic Administrative Policies and Procedures Manual, G-9).

*When a letter grade is submitted for a DF or NG, the grade is entered on the transcript, the grade-point average is recalculated, and the I and INCP symbols are removed.
