Welcome to the Chinese
Program of the Pennsylvania State University. We offer a B.A. in Chinese: Chinese Major and
Minor. In
addition to the annual
Summer Intensive Language Institute in Chinese, we also have summer,
fall, spring, and year-long education abroad programs in
Taipei,
Beijing,
Shanghai,
Hong Kong, and
Singapore.
As part of the Asian Studies Program, the Chinese Program offers Chinese language courses (listed under CHNS), and Chinese literature and culture courses (listed under ASIA or CMLIT in the University course catalogue).

Found in Translation
A new student group focusing on translation now meet every Thursday
(6:15 p.m.) at WEBSTER'S to discuss issues of translation and specific
texts of interest. All are welcome to join any time.
Finish First-Year Chinese in 8 Weeks the Summer
Take intensive summer
CHNS 001 (4 weeks) and/or
CHNS 002 (4 weeks); register for 4 to 12 credits; field trips and
enrichment activities. Any one 15 years or older is eligible to
register. Register

Non-Credit Proficiency Certification
Non-credit foreign language proficiency certification (Mandarin, Cantonese or Southern Min / Taiwanese) may be used to
satisfy the foreign language requirements.
Requests for proficiency testing (use this
form) are to be submitted to
Ms. Rose Tan at least 3 weeks prior to the time when the
certification will be needed, with the fee ($60) paid before the
examination is administered (by either Ms. Chen or an alternate faculty
member depending on the language in question; see the
People page for details).
