Chinese Universities Recruit European Students

the first time in the history, a group of Chinese universities are
holding education exhibition in Berlin to recruit German students to
study in China.

study in China.
A total of 18 key universities, including Beijing University, Shanxi University and Tongji University,
set up their stands in the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science to
present themselves inthe two-day exhibition, the first of its kind in
Europe by Chineseuniversities, organizers said.
President of the university delegation, also Tongji
University's president, WU Qidi told Xinhua that the first trip of
Chinese universities to Europe showed their willingness to be more open
tothe outside world.
"The fact at present is that Chinese students swarm to Germany to study. We want to make a turning point through this exhibition:to get more German students to study in China," she said.
A student from the Potzdam University collected from five
universities brochures and CDs introducing the universities. "I haven't
decided yet in which university to study. I will have a good look at
the materials at home, then I will decide," he said.
Besides traditional subjects that interest foreign students
such as Chinese language, traditional Chinese medicine, other oneslike
economics management and architecture also attracted visitors.
Sebastian Haunstein has graduated from a German University
and decided to continue his study in China's Qinghua University. He
also intends to find a job in China after he finishes his study inthe
university. "China is developing fast. She has a splendid future," he
said.
Some universities provided special subjects for foreign
students at the exhibition. Beijing Sports University has offered
"Chinese Kongfu" and "Dao Yin Qigong" for students from abroad, while
the Ocean University of Qingdao set a new "foreign students-only"
subject named "Doing Business in China" to attract foreign students.
Education Minister of the Berlin state Thomas Flierl told
Xinhua that more and more German students have interest to study in
China. He said that he expected Chinese universities to hold more
similar exhibitions in Germany in the future.
In recent years, China is becoming more and more attractive
forforeign students. According to the Chinese Education Ministry,
foreign students in China increase 30 percent every year.
