Colloquy on Asia in the Era of Globalization (CAEG)
BOUNDARIES
A TWO-YEAR GENERATIVE PROGRAM FUNDED BY THE INSTITUTE FOR THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES
Visitors: Lecture Series / Performance or Exhibition
Each year, four distinguished colleagues from other universities and institutions in the related areas of Asian Studies will be invited to lecture. At least one performance/exhibition will be included each year. These visits will be coordinated with topics in current graduate seminars, both the special thematic seminars and other graduate courses as well. Our aim is to have each graduate seminar on an Asian-related topic benefit from at least one visitor. The visitors will give open lectures as well as class sessions. The graduate seminars will include group round-tables, readings of primary texts (both in foreign languages and in translation), theoretical works, and the consideration of course curricula of several types. Time could be set aside for office hours so that graduate students and honors students writing theses (or other students) could receive suggestions/advice from the visitors. Electronic resources will be used for dissemination of materials or information through our website and in our classrooms.
Visitors will be selected, as noted, to include at least one creative artist or performance. They will also be selected to reinforce our linkages to strong Asia-related programs at other U.S. universities, which will enhance our position both for graduate recruitment and, we expect, for positive recommendations on future external grant proposals.
